Autism Care For Children

Understanding Autism in Children

All children with autism also known as down syndrome or CP, suffer from sensory disorders. The research shows that the key to treating these sensory disorders in autism is the sense of touch.

These children need special care and needs. Basing on the mission and vision of RaiseThemUp foundation, we always care about seeing everybody happy in the community and this is why we extended our work of serving communities to Mulago community in Kampala district. The families that we managed to visit and help with our fewer resources included the family of mama Ameria (shown in the photo).  Ameria is a 15 year old girl has down syndrome which has left her  physically and mentally unwell since childhood. Ameria was born with other two siblings making them a total of four in the household. The mother doubles as the head of the family ever since Ameria’s father no longer lives. This has made life difficult for the whole family since survival only depends on the mother who also has no source of income. We talked to mama Ameria she says she no longer has any chance of conducting any business or getting work because of Ameria’s condition which needs close monitoring. She therefore calls for any help that can be given to help her in this situation. Ameria being an adolescent , she experiences mood swings by which at times its unconformable for the younger siblings.

We believe that together we can help Ameria and her mother in different ways, for example we suggested that she acquire a skill that can help her work from home for example tailoring. This way she will be able to cater for the family and take the siblings to school. With this she was excited about it but she doesn’t have the funds required for training and purchasing the sewing machine. We therefore call for any help towards this cause.

Among other families we visited was the family of mama Camellias. Camellias is ten(10) years of age and was born with down syndrome which has also left her  mentally and physically un well. Mama camellias is also a single mother of 4 children she too goes through the same struggle as mama Ameria and both need assistance both financial and spiritually. Many families are out there struggling with such conditions and diseases.
